Be aware of your emotions

Instructions

  1. Openly recognize your emotions.
Begin by paying close attention to your emotions without judgment. When you feel a strong emotion, pause to acknowledge it. For example, instead of reacting immediately to a surge of anger, recognize it by saying to yourself, "I am feeling angry right now." This simple act of noticing and naming your emotions creates a space between your feelings and your actions, allowing you to respond more thoughtfully.
  2. Observe your emotions from a distance.
You are not your emotions. When you experience strong feelings or negative thoughts, practice to just observe them. Picture your thoughts and emotions as clouds drifting across the sky. Acknowledge their presence without feeling the need to hold onto them. With time, they will pass.
  3. Identify your core values.
Reflect on what is genuinely important to you in life. What values do you want to guide your actions? You might value kindness, integrity, creativity, or family. Whatever it is, write it down. Understanding your values helps you make decisions that align with your true self.
  4. Implement small, value-aligned actions.
Instead of aiming for massive, immediate changes, focus on making small adjustments in your daily life that are in line with your values. For example, if one of your values is health, consider incorporating a short walk into your routine rather than immediately signing up for a marathon. This will make it easier for you to progress.
