Identify the three options you have in any situation, act on one, and move on.

Naval Ravikant is an active angel investor who has invested in many mega-successes including Twitter and Uber and is the CEO and co-founder of AngelList. Having realized that an aversion to accepting reality is responsible for most of our misery, he now examines the options and makes a decision. He acts, leaves, or accepts situations; while most people sit around wishing that they would act, leave, or accept situations. If you do the same, you will be free! You avoid the struggle that is responsible for most of our misery.

Instructions

  1. Identify the three options you have in any situation.
You can change it, you can accept it, or you can leave it.

  2. If you can change it, do that now.
Come up with a list of clear steps you can take, starting today, to change this situation to your advantage. It’s counterproductive to sit around wishing you would change it, but not changing it.

  3. If you need to leave it, do that now.
Leave the situation, knowing that this is best for all involved. It’s counterproductive to sit around wishing you would leave it, but not leaving.

  4. If you need to accept it, do that now.
Accept the situation and move on without doubts. It’s counterproductive to sit around not accepting it and struggling with the inevitable.
